Hernia Surgery Dallas, TX | The Iskandar Complex Hernia Center

How do I find the best hernia surgeon in Dallas?

While there are many surgeons who do hernia surgery in Dallas, we recommend finding a surgeon whose sole focus is hernia repair and complex hernia repair. Because a focused-on-hernias surgeon will have seen more hernia surgeries than those practicing varied types of procedures, he or she will typically be more experienced in the repair of hernias. The more complex the hernia, the more important it becomes to find a complex abdominal wall repair specialist.

Type of Hernias Repaired

Both synthetic mesh and non-mesh surgical procedures are used depending on your unique case.

Inguinal Hernia Repair Dallas

A bulge occurs in the groin region, the area between the lower part of the abdomen and thigh. This is the most common of all hernia types. It affects men more frequently than women.

Inguinal hernias can be corrected with surgical repair to reposition the bulge and strengthen the abdominal wall weakness.

Umbilical Hernia Repair Dallas

Repairing part of the intestine bulges through the opening in the abdominal muscles near the belly button (navel).

During umbilical hernia repair, the surgeon makes a small cut at the belly button and pushes the fatty lump or bowel back into the abdominal cavity. The muscle layers at the weak spot in the abdominal wall where the hernia is located are patched with mesh and/or stitched together to strengthen them.

Hiatal Hernia Repair Dallas

A hernia where the upper part of the stomach bulges through the diaphragm into your chest cavity. A hiatal hernia can result in chronic coughing that is dry and persistent.

A hiatal hernia can be repaired by drawing your stomach down into your abdomen and narrowing the diaphragm opening or by reconstructing an esophageal sphincter.

Ventral Hernia Repair Dallas

A hernia that occurs at any location along the midline (vertical center) of the abdomen wall.

The purpose of ventral hernia surgery is to close the hole/defect in the abdominal wall, preventing the intestine and other abdominal tissue from bulging through. Repairing the hole and putting the muscles back to their natural place often restores the tone and contour of the abdominal wall.

Incisional Hernia Repair Dallas

A protrusion of tissue that occurs at the site of a healing surgical scar.

In this surgical procedure, which is also referred to as herniorrhaphy, the surgeon makes an incision in the abdomen above the hernia, then repairs the opening in the muscle wall while pushing any protruding intestine back into the abdomen.

Abdominal Hernia Repair Dallas

Develops when a weakness forms in the abdominal wall that enables part of the intestine (bowel) or another organ to protrude through it.

Femoral Hernia Repair Dallas

This hernia occurs when a portion of your muscle tries to get back through the femoral canal consisting of veins, nerves, and arteries. These are rarer than an inguinal hernia and can be more dangerous.

Strangulated Hernia Repair Dallas

This hernia occurs when the blood supply to the herniated tissue has been cut off. A patient can develop a strangulated hernia from an incarcerated one. This requires an emergency medical procedure. It can be life-threatening and should not go untreated.

What causes a hernia?

Muscle weakness allows an opening to form from which the bowels, an organ, or other tissue protrude.

What are hernia symptoms?

  • Swelling or bulge in the abdomen, groin, or scrotum
  • Increased pain or protrusion size at the location of the bulge.
  • Pain while lifting, especially heavy lifting.
  • Discomfort from bending over.
  • A dull aching sensation.
  • A sense of feeling full or signs of bowel obstruction.

What makes a hernia a complex hernia?

In the simplest of terms, recurrent hernias that keep coming back or large hernias make them complex. These are more complicated surgeries often done by surgeons who focus primarily on complex hernias. The Iskandar Complex Hernia Center has such a focus; after all, it is in our name. Why We Love Dallas, TX

Dallas is the largest city in Dallas County, as well as the county seat. Portions of the city also extend into Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. Dallas is located in the state of Texas in the United States. With a population of 1,304,379 according to the census completed in the year 2020, it is the ninth most populous city in the United States and the third-largest in the state of Texas after Houston and San Antonio. The city of Dallas is the main core of the largest metropolitan area in the Southern United States. It is also the largest inland metropolitan area in the United States that does not have any navigable link to the sea. Dallas can be found in the northern part of the state of Texas. It is the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, which is the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States, with a total population of 7.5 million people.

Dallas and nearby Fort Worth were initially developed as a result of the construction of major railroad lines through the area. These lines allowed for access to cotton, cattle, and later oil in North and East Texas. Dallas and Fort Worth are both located in the heart of the Lone Star State. With four major interstate highways converging in the city of Dallas and a fifth interstate highway looping around the city, Dallas was given a boost in its prominence as a transportation hub as a result of the construction of the Interstate Highway System. Due to the convergence of major railroad lines, interstate highways, and the construction of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which is now one of the largest and busiest airports in the world, Dallas eventually developed into a powerful industrial and financial center as well as a major inland port. This was made possible by the growth of transportation infrastructure. In addition, Dallas is home to DART, which stands for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. This public transportation system features a variety of colored train lines that run across the Metroplex.
